Belfast Adult Education, of RSU #71,  is located in Belfast, Maine.  Belfast serves as the shire town of Waldo County.  It represents one of the anchors of the midcoast region.  The program is primarily responsible for providing programming to the citizens of Belfast,  Belmont, Morrill, Searsmont, and Swanville.  BAE also provides adult education services to the neighboring RSU #20 consisting of the towns of Searsport, Stockton Springs.  Many adult learners join the program from outside this geographic region due to the fact that RSU #71 Adult Education does not have a residency requirement. 

Belfast Adult Education is the only full time, full service program in Waldo County. serving adults age sixteen and older year round.  The administrative offices are open Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 6:30pm.  The Learning Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 9:00pm and Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. 

Instruction is offered at four different locations including the Learning Center on Waldo Avenue, Belfast Area High School, the University of Maine - Hutchinson Center and Waldo County Corrections Facility. .

Belfast Adult Education is a member of the Maine Adult Education Association and provides programming in the five categories listed below.

Business & Skills Traning courses help prepare Maine citizens by providing the modern skills training necessary for new careers, promotions, and other career advancement.

College Transitions courses assist people of all ages wishing to make the transition into college-level courses.

GED & High School Completion courses help people complete their high school education.

Literacy courses give people the guidance, support, and training neccessary to improve their literacy skills and the literacy skills of their family.

Personal enrichment courses include lessons in skills such as cooking and musical instruments, and also include a variety of unique and fun experiences including travel and
